The Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center, in a desert in northwest China, has become free from sandstorms, thanks to great efforts to turn it into an oasis by servicemen guarding and working there.
With the help of scientists, officers and men have planted 68 kinds of trees to build up a green shelter around the satellite- launching base.
They have also constructed greenhouses to grow vegetables and make salt water drinkable by using water-purification equipment, in addition to digging wells.
The improved environment has not only made these servicemen's life easier, it has also attracted lots of migrant birds to stop over.
