Having seen the writing on the wall, the owners of the Black Sun, the legendary meeting point in Sanlitun South Street, opened up Black Sun 2, and what an improvement it is on that hovel of old. Still selling drinks at rock bottom prices, the bar is a favourite for a younger crowd who are watching the pennies.

Entry is through a dungeonesque doorway and passage, with darkness reigning supreme once inside and faces furtively lit by table lamps. There's room to dance to the overload of R&B, and a pool table and small patio area that will be providing cool relief in a few weeks as the weather pulls its socks up.

The Caipirinha here is said to be worth a try. In a world where you get what you pay for, punters get probably a good deal at Black Sun 2.
