Which wedges are best?

Summer fashion seems to be headed in several directions. Will it be all white, crocheted, pleated, or perhaps printed? There is no consensus. But one fact is certain: the look will be built on top of a wedge, literally. The wedge is the footwear of choice this summer, even for women who don't normally wear heels. Indeed, it's a more comfortable option to the high heel, and will still add height (with style, but without pain).

When it comes to wedges, the actual heel is just as, if not more important, than the shoe itself. Put another way, not all wedges are created equal. This season's top wedge designs will be covered in prints: crocodile skin, rope, classic wood and stripes, and will be full of spunk. You'll never be out of fashion in a wedge, or in danger of looking dull with our top three summer wedge picks.

the high stepper
A charming style, part footballer's wife, part sophisticated casual, these designer wedges by Loewe are just too cute to pass up. The boating rope detailing plays against the sexy black bowtie, making this choice a great companion for breezy summer shorts. (RMB 2,690)

the Donna Summer
Last season's metallic look is still lingering but with a new heel. Steve Madden's bling-bling gold platform wedge is a moderately priced option for the budget savvy shopper. The 70s style design, with its classic open toe, is a good match with clam diggers or wide-leg pants (JWD RMB 370).

the foxy lady
Reminiscent of a colorful Easter basket, the funky wedge from Hot Wind is surprisingly inexpensive. The heel is much more practical for everyday wear, and goes best with a single-colored outfit complemented with vibrant accessories. All eyes will be on these wedges, so sit back and let them do the work (RMB 180).
