Nestled at the foot of the picturesque white arched bridge on Houhai's east bank, Houhai Zoo might be mistaken for another overpriced, overdesigned lakeside sofa bar. What owner Huxley and manager BB are betting on is something more edgy. With different local DJs lined up nearly every night, music will range from the freshest indie rock and intelligent dance music to 80's and "funky stuff."
Current decor is decidedly dark and minimalist, leaving room for fun dance floor action and BB's creative theme parties to color the space. Drink prices replicate the ever-popular Nanjie and Huxley's formula of ￥10 mixed drinks, and weekend jazz 'n
dub afternoons offer all-you-can drink margaritas for ￥100. Pizzas are good value at ￥65 a pie, and the outdoor deck BBQ serves juicy meat or veggie kebabs to fuel your dancing legs. Easy on the wallet and stimulating to the ears, Zoo just might lure Beijing's wildlife back to Houhai.
