Remember Frank's Place, Beijing's first non-hotel bar, which has maintained its high standard of food, drink and service for more than a decade? After the old place was demolished, it moved to the Lido area, just west of the Rosedale Hotel.

The old Frank's Place is not forgotten in the new with its "excellent food, excellent beer, pool table, good value and friendly atmosphere." You still get "great value drinks and fantastic food," and "a wide selection of imported (UK, US, Danish) and local beers (Tsingtao and others). Food is fabulous. The new Frank's Place, on the ground floor of Trio, remains true to its legacy. In addition, it is more appealing in the company of its Park Grill and The Cellar, the other two members of the "Trio".

Park Grill is on the second floor of Trio with a taste of old-fashioned New York in Beijing. Chef Chris Adams serves high-quality meats and seafood cooked in a "Pacific Rim" style. Standout dishes include the Australian T-bone and New Zealand lamb. The restaurant's contemporary decor centres on a white baby grand piano, played live five nights a week.

The Cellar, in the basement, is a wine-bar, lounge and restaurant, offering a Mediterranean menu of tapas and cheeses to complement the fine wines that are its mainstay. With live music and three VIP rooms available for private entertainment, The Cellar is a good place to track down an obscure label or vintage in China's capital city.
