The new Moon River Diner

Going to a meeting in a late wet afternoon starving like I had just come out of a 6 month hibernation, I was nicely surprised to see Moon River Diner in the same complex as my meeting place. This new complex has been created along the lines of Xin Tian Di (this being the simplest comparison I can muster) comprises of Clubs, restaurants and shopping. To be exact it's the New Factories in the Jing An district, but more about New Factories in another edition.

Entering on the second floor, which shares the same staircase as Muse I was initially confused and disoriented thinking that I had perhaps just stepped into a Burger King in disguised. After seeing the warm smiles of the owners and staff as they rushed about quickly affirmed to me that I was in the right place. To my surprise, which I later found out was that it was only the second day this outlet has opened it's door, which answered my questions as to why everyone was rushing about testing the equipment.

With a complimentary plate of popcorn, I surveyed the joint and what initially looked like a fair size diner turned out to be  huge. If this outlet was the first to open it could easily be the mother of the chain. The Flagship Store.

For a few years since visiting the first Moon River Diner in Gubei I had been secretly hoping for one to be opened closer to where my life is, downtown, but each time a new one opened it was even further than Gubei store, so imagine my excitement seeing this new outlet finally open close to home. However this turned out event better then I had anticipated.

After my meal which I scoffed down like there's no tomorrow, I was taken for a tour of the venue and found that what I initially saw was less the a third of the whole place. The first floor is dedicated to take-out and its new Deli business where you can buy home made cakes, bread, salads and special dressing amongst other hearty American favourites (which I admit I know nothing about, but it sounded tasty). On the third floor is also a new business which houses a bar with a huge selection of American brews, for those who are tired of Bud, I'm sure you can find your favourite home grown brew here. The third floor can also cater to functions. If your into dining under the Moon, they have not one but two outdoor patios. Looking forward to the BBQ events. Too bad winter is coming otherwise it would be a great place to chill on a Sunday afternoon.

If you have young ones, as usual with other outlets, Moon River Diner seem keep the family in mind with Kiddy meals and most importantly, No Smoking inside the dining area.

Sorry to new people in Shanghai who hoping to read about the food, you can read about this in other write ups as Moon River continues to deliver the same quality menus as its other outlets.
