Some popular DJs are to fill in several downtown hot nightspots for the
upcoming days. Go and check out what they are.
DJ Jazzie B of Soul II Soul (Dec 15)
The end
of the 1980s-a time when dance music was born and when DJ Jazzie B of Soul II
Soul fame was nurturing soul and funk-inspired dance music, now known as acid
jazz. Instrumental in the crossover success of dance music into the mainstream
with unforgettable tracks such as Back To Life (However Do You Want Me) and Keep
On Movin, Soul II Soul experienced success on both sides of the Atlantic and
took acid jazz into the clubs. Not just a club classic in name (Club Classics
was Soul II Souls' debut album), DJ Jazzie B is a club classic in the flesh and
a true clubbing legend.
Ali B-Presented by Red T Music (Dec 15)
"It
seems Chinese clubbers are spoilt for choice at the moment with so many new
venues opening and the level of international acts and artists from around the
world." Ali B couldn't have said it any better-especially considering the
quality of acts coming to Beijing this month. Still, Ali's unfazed by going head
to head with Jazzie B on December 15 and expects his unique style of breakbeat
to go down well with the home crowd. "I've found that breaks definitely work
well in China and there is a healthy scene. I think you can afford to be pretty
experimental there as people are quite open minded."
Carl Cox (Dec 8, 9)
The man really needs no
introduction, especially for those who have seen him live. In fact, Carl Cox's
set was so good last year that the Banana boys have brought him back for two
gigs at their respective locations, Banana and Coco Banana. Hopefully Coxy won't
mind the extra work-he seemed to enjoy himself last year, announcing midway
through his set that Beijingers certainly "know how to f'ing party." He probably
says this to everyone, but we certainly felt special. However, be advised to buy
your ticket in advance as prices will most probably rise as the night goes on.
It's not right, it's not fair-but hey-that-s Beijing.
