Paradise is sizzling. Literally. Your meal of steak and vegetables,
served raw, come atop a stone plate that sizzles at 400 degrees Fahrenheit, so
that you can cook them exactly how you like them.
Flavors are simple, if a tad salty, the only condiments being pepper and more
salt. The somewhat inflated prices are standard Xintiandi, and quality varies:
£¤138 for a nice salmon fillet and £¤168 for tender sirloin, but £¤168 for an
unexceptional mixed grill of tough steak, over-marinated chicken and fatty pork.
Our main complaint is that Paradise, formerly a nightclub, hasn't managed to
shed its former self: The decor is TGI Friday¡¯s meets cover-band club on a bad
night, and the gaudy bar and wall of mirrors detract from the food. We'd prefer
to return in summer, when we can sit outside, people watch, and tuck into an
interactive, oil-free meal.
