CITYLIFE / Eating Out |
A garden settingBy Andrea Y. See (City Weekend)
Updated: 2007-08-17 10:58 In Shanghai, there are establishments serving successful interpretations of world cuisine, and others that are well- meaning attempts. This is one of them. Nestled in a quaint garden home on quiet Julu Lu, iMix serves a streamlined selection of Italian favorites. A simple caprese (RMB 38) was a fresh start to our summer morning visit, with pesto sauce enlivening the minimalist dish of tomatoes and mozzarella. The earthier osso buco (RMB 78) was competent, albeit lacking a certain complexity in taste. A tiny pizza (RMB 58) of salami, tomato, artichokes, olives, anchovies and oregano left us "underwhelmed" as well as slightly thirsty from the saltiness. Service was attentive but as the wait staff thanked us from dropping by, we couldn't help but be unconvinced. iMix falls short of truly satisfying. Perfect for: an afternoon sitting in the garden. iMix Restaurant and Bar |
