French nostalgia

(That's Shanghai)

Blue Chair pays nostalgic homage to that most casual of French delicacies: the crepe. The restaurant's open kitchen and adjacent brasserie-style bar create an inviting atmosphere.

Other details, though, lend this creperie a fashionable edge: classic films are projected onto a plain wall, and retro mood music fills the room. We began our meal with a savory crepe, filled with egg, Gruyere cheese, tomato, fresh spinach, sauteed onion and mushroom with cream sauce (RMB 65).

It was prepared perfectly: the sweet, nutty Gruyere was well suited to the mushrooms' earthy flavor. Later, the dark chocolate crepe topped with vanilla ice cream (RMB 45) convinced us that Blue Chair is a perfect choice for either a full meal, or a sweet, late-night pick-me-up.
