Cheap eat

A meal here might be easy on the wallet, but Han She’s tacky decor is hard on the eyes.

Plastic bamboo skirts the low-cost wood-paneled walls, while the bulky white leather seats are already showing wear. However, the biggest disappointment here is the food, which is a pale imitation of Korean fare. The Special Part of Beef (RMB 35) was tough, and our seafood pancakes (RMB 30) were tasteless, with scarce morsels of squid, imitation crabmeat and chives buried within a thin dough.

Thankfully, the spicy beef (RMB 45) was succulent, though it lacked that certain kick. Ultimately, while this restaurant is conveniently located in the heart of the city, your money would be better spent on cab fare to Ziteng Lu, the suburban Shanghai epicenter of Korean food and culture.
