Paris Hilton released from jail after 5 days

Paris Hilton was released from a Los Angeles County jail yesterday after serving only five days of her more than three-week sentence for violating probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case, authorities said.

The 26-year-old hotel heiress was released for medical reasons, and sent home fitted with an ankle bracelet. She must remain confined to her home for 40 days, said sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore.

"With extensive consultation with medical personnel it was decided this reassignment should be done," Whitmore told reporters.
