Intel's Chairman Craig Barrett is no stranger to China. He made 13 trips to the nation over the past 15 years, mostly to big cities like Shanghai and Beijing. But the first stop on his 14th visit was different.

On June 22, Barrett arrived in earthquake-stricken Sichuan province to start the company's 35 million yuan "iWorld" project to provide well-equipped computer rooms and Internet connections for 200 schools in the region.

As part of the project, the company will also extend its existing educational programs to schools in eight severely affected counties in the province.
