Chinese economy 'sound' CPC Central Committee says

Despite the international financial crisis sweeping the world, the "overall economic situation" in China remains "sound", the country's top decision makers said yesterday.
The country's economic situation and its response to the current global economic slump were hot topics at the third Plenary Session of the 17th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, which concluded yesterday.
"(The country's) economy maintained rapid growth, the financial industry is running steadily and the basic situation of economic development remained unchanged," a communiqu issued on the plenum's conclusion said.
