The mainland stock market fell yesterday but outperformed regional markets on the back of stronger-than-expected economic data and hopes for fresh government aid for struggling industrial sectors.

The Shanghai Composite Index ended down 0.45 percent at 1920.206 points, off a low of 1902.542. It had risen 3.52 percent on Wednesday, its biggest gain in nearly five weeks.
