Pill plot girl recovers, dad dies

The girl who attempted suicide in order to donate her liver to a sick parent is no longer in danger of dying, but doctors say she is still too ill to learn the news of her father's death at the weekend.

Chen Jin, 13, is in intensive care at Wuxi No 3 People's Hospital, Jiangsu province, after swallowing 200 sleeping pills on Jan 24 and was to undergo surgery today on burns she suffered when she fell unconscious on an electric blanket.

Her father Chen Jianjun, who had liver cancer, died on Saturday. The girl's mother, Cui Lan, said she was "still unaware of her father's death as the doctor said not to tell her due to her current condition."
