Public welfare focus of Guangzhou talks
GUANGZHOU: Advisors and deputies to the ongoing people's congress of Guangzhou have called for the city government to do more to deal with unemployment and public welfare issues.
"The global financial crisis is biting deeper into the city's economic development; very likely many citizens' lives will be affected," said Sun Suijun, vice-chairman of the Guangzhou Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese and a member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference's Guangzhou committee.
"The government should pay enough attention to the issue and take active measures to avoid employed citizens from losing jobs and to create a maximal number of job opportunities for local job seekers," Sun added.
