Booty for a clean official

Recently, six senior villagers from Dongnan village, Changle county, Shandong, posted an advertisement on an online forum for a clean official. The villagers will reward him with 5 million yuan if he can help them reclaim embezzled public assets worth 50 million yuan.

Though the 5-million-yuan reward looks like a publicity stunt, the appeal of the villagers displays the plight of grassroot governance in the rural areas.
