Mountain high monitoring

China has built a seismic monitoring station at the foot of Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world, in Southwest China's Tibet autonomous region, local officials said yesterday. The station, 4,255 m above sea level, could be used to study the tectonic zone of the Himalayas, where Mount Everest is located, said Soiring, deputy director with the regional earthquake administration.
