Timeline of China's hukou system reform

At least 10 cities in the country have canceled the temporary residence system. Instead, the residence permit has been established in these places, with people enjoying more benefits, such as social security and employment.

Foshan, Guangzhou, Zhuhai and Dongguan in Guangdong province canceled the temporary residence permit. People holding temporary residence permits can change them into residence permits and file for permanent residence seven years later.
