China and ASEAN signed an agreement on cooperation in intellectual property protection at their 12th bilateral summit, which was held in Hua Hin, Thailand in October 2009.

The agreement covers wide-ranging cooperation in policy communication, application processing, quality control, staff training, electronic information and database construction.

Tian Lipu, commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office, who signed on behalf of China's government, said that the agreement is expected to further increase the China-ASEAN cooperation after many years of multi-facet collaboration in a variety of intellectual property fields.
