The parents of a female senior high school student who showed symptoms of schizophrenia after she was allegedly beaten seven years ago by three fellow students at Haidian Landianchang Middle School began legal action against the school and the three students on Wednesday, reported Beijing Times.

According to the newspaper, the incident began after the alleged victim, who was 16 at the time, became jealous of a fellow student after she saw writing on the girl's notebook that suggested she had feelings for the victim's boyfriend.

The newspaper reported that the owner of the notebook and two other girls attacked the victim in a corridor on Dec 9, 2003, during a break between classes.
