Kyrgyz govt seeks to regain control in restive south

OSH, Kyrgyzstan - At least one person was killed in Kyrgyzstan on Friday in clashes between interim government supporters and backers of ousted President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, officials said.

The Health Ministry said at least 37 others were wounded in the southern city of Jalalabad, where Bakiyev supporters thwarted a crowd trying to enter the government headquarters.

Underscoring volatility in a nation that hosts US and Russian military air bases, Bakiyev supporters on Thursday seized the government headquarters in all three southern provinces - Osh, Jalalabad and Batken.
