Faye Wong swaps mic for mouse, vocals for snarling
Faye Wong is no longer productive as a singer. She hasn't released a new studio album since To Love in 2002 and only last year came out of semi-retirement with a lucrative tour. But she has caught on to micro-blogging and is leading the way when it comes to fresh, online literary styles. She is one of the prime movers behind paoxiaoti, or "snarling style" - a mode of expression that works a bit like this:
Olympic champion Liu Xiang loves Taiwan actress Shu Qi!!! Yes or no!!! He's been sending her loads of tweets!!! But she doesn't seem interested!!! Yes or no!!! They have met. They are single!!! Is romance on the cards? Yes or no!!!
As you can tell, exclamation marks are the key identifier of snarling style (sounds like a form of kungfu) and its other main elements are short, declarative sentences, with the question, yes or no!!! at the end.
