Mayor predicts Games will be 'greatest show on Earth'

By Xinhua in London | China Daily | Updated: 2012-07-21 08:02

London Mayor Boris Johnson on Friday insisted that the London Olympic Games would be a huge success.

Just a week before the opening ceremony on July 27 and on the day that the Olympic torch arrived in London after travelling around the British Isles, there are doubts about security at the Games, given the failure of the security firm G4S to supply enough staff. Troops and police were drafted in to cover any shortfall.

Meanwhile, there are also threats of strikes on the railway with strike action planned on East Midlands trains on Aug 6 to 8 as union members strike over pensions. Immigration officials plan to strike the day before the opening ceremony, on a day when a huge volume of visitors are expected to arrive at London's airports.
