Officials in Shandong are answering Premier Li Keqiang's call for a "new type of urbanization" focused on the needs of the common people.

"A sound and people-oriented urbanization is the key to the sustained, healthy development of the local economy," Jiang Yikang, Party secretary of Shandong province said at the ongoing National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference meetings that opened in Beijing on March 3.

Jiang noted that Shandong's urbanization is designed to be balanced with such ideals as eco-friendly industrialization, agricultural modernization and informationization, which will create business and job opportunities across a wide range of sectors.
