Senior official lays out vision for Xinjiang stability

A senior official laid out his vision for long-term social stability in the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region during a study tour from Wednesday to Sunday.

Yu Zhengsheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said the keys are economic development and improving people's livelihoods.

Yu, who also chairs the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, visited Kashgar, Aksu, and Urumqi, stopping at colleges and the paramilitary Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps to discuss local development and stability with officials and members of the public.
