Marrying fine art and fine hotels

There is nothing new about the relationship between fine art and fine hotels. Hoteliers have been investing in art pieces and displaying them in lobbies, lounges and rooms as part of their bigger portfolios.

Few hotels, however, are doing what the latest JW Marriott Hotel in Beijing Central is doing. It has embarked on a more ambitious program. Rather than presenting individual art pieces, the hotel has literally transformed itself into a gallery with the theme Once Poetic Land.

"While modernization brings us a faster-paced and more convenient life, the city is declining into noise, and hustle and bustle," says artist Liu Yingwu, a public art professor at The Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
