An inmate was able to escape from Beijiang Prison in Guangdong province on Saturday because of outdated facilities and management flaws, according to the Ministry of Justice.

"Only 500 meters of the prison's 1,700-meter perimeter wall reach the necessary standard, and there are no surveillance cameras in the work area," Vice-Minister of Justice Zhang Sujun said on Wednesday.

He added that the warden and the deputy warden have been dismissed.
