By Associated Press in Seoul | China Daily | Updated: 2015-06-13 07:50

South Korea reported the 11th death from the MERS virus outbreak on Friday, but officials said they are seeing fewer new infections, and that it is unlikely there will be another large outbreak.

A total of 126 people in South Korea have contracted Middle East respiratory syndrome since the country reported its first case last month. The outbreak has been contained to hospitals but has caused widespread fears and rumors, and about 2,790 schools and kindergartens remained closed on Friday.

South Korean officials believe the disease has peaked, and it will begin easing in coming days.
