Alert issued after drug lord's new prison escape

By Agencies in Mexico City, Mexico | China Daily | Updated: 2015-07-13 07:37

Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" (Shorty) Guzman has escaped from a maximum-security prison for the second time in 14 years, authorities said Sunday, dealing an embarrassing blow to the government.

The kingpin was last spotted by security cameras at 8:52 pm in the shower area of the Altiplano prison, 90 km west of Mexico City, on Saturday night, the National Security Commission said.

He wasn't seen for a while after, as the showers are out of the range of security cameras.
