The rise and fall of a university bureaucrat
Ji Baocheng, a former president of Renmin University of China, recently returned to the limelight but for the wrong reasons.
According to media reports, after investigations, authorities announced disciplinary action against Ji for "violations of rules", a common euphemism for corruption, almost four years after he retired from the position.
He was suspended from the Communist Party of China for two years and has been put on "good behavior" notice. But more substantially, in the public eye, his retirement benefits, equal to those of a deputy minister, were canceled.
