The leaders of China and the United States must hold intensive talks to improve mutual understanding, solve differences and initiate more peace initiatives across the world, a senior Austrian official has said.

During his state visit to the United States, President Xi Jinping and his US counterpart, Barack Obama, agreed to enhance economic cooperation, and reiterated their commitment to maintaining strong bilateral ties in favor of world peace, stability and security.

Disputes that also involve the world's leading countries can be overcome as long as all parties believe that "harmony and balance" are fundamental for stability, Harald Mahrer, Austria's State Secretary for the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy, told Xinhua.
