Xi: Poverty fight 'a common mission'
The Chinese government will enact more support policies to lift the country's 70 million poor people above the poverty line by 2020, while actively engaged in the global poverty alleviation plan, President Xi Jinping pledged on Friday ahead of the 23rd International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
"Eradicating poverty is a common mission of human beings," Xi told the Global Poverty Reduction and Development Forum in Beijing. "While China fights against poverty at home, we are also actively engaged in South-South Cooperation, providing assistance, without any condition, to other developing countries.
"It supports and helps developing countries, especially the least-developed countries, in eradicating poverty."
