Incident may lead to US military anti-IS escalation

The Paris terrorist attacks seem likely to compel US President Barack Obama to consider a military escalation against the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria.

But that probably would not involve launching a US or international ground offensive or accelerating aerial bombing in hopes of eliminating the global threat of violent extremism.

"You aren't going to bomb IS back to the Stone Age," Middle East analyst Anthony Cordesman said on Saturday.
