Kerry says US played no role in coup plot

US Secretary of State John Kerry denied the United States played any role in Turkey's failed coup over the weekend and warned that such accusations can harm relations.

In a phone call with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Saturday, Kerry received an update on events and was told that the Turkish government remains in control of state institutions.

The call came amid claims Fethullah Gulen, a US-based cleric, had plotted the coup, with demands for him to be extradited.
