Chinese jazz hands are clapping louder

When Huang Yong founded the Beijing Nine Gates International Jazz Festival in 2006, the genre wasn't as popular in China as were other kinds of Western music, such as pop and rock.

The festival has come a long way since. So far, it has held 250 performances with musicians from over 30 countries.

In the festival's early days, only a handful of Chinese jazz bands performed and there was a single band from the United States.
