China Daily | Updated: 2017-05-06 07:31

PYONGYANG - The Democratic People's Republic of Korea said on Friday that it had foiled an attempt by US and Republic of Korea spy agencies to assassinate the country's top leader, Kim Jong-un, the DPRK's Korean Central News Agency reported.

According to the report, the US Central Intelligence Agency and the ROK's Intelligence Service attempted to kill Kim last month with biochemical and radioactive substances.

The Ministry of State Security of the DPRK said in a statement that the CIA recruited a DPRK citizen in Russia's Far East in 2014 and trained him to carry out the assassination against Kim while the leader was making public appearances on April 15 during celebrations of the 105th birthday of DPRK founding leader Kim Il-sung.
