Precious historic stamps on show in Xiamen
XIAMEN - Over 10,000 precious stamps from the Philippines are being showcased at an exhibition in the eastern Chinese city of Xiamen, running until May 9, providing an insight into the Southeast Asian nation's history.
The stamps date from different periods in the country's history starting from 1840 when they were first issued, said Zhuo Peilin, a collector and owner of the stamps on display.
Philippine Consul General to Xiamen Julius Caesar Flores said that the stamps show the country's political and social endeavors as well as its close bond with China.
Zhuo said the exhibition debuted in Xiamen because the early overseas Chinese from southern Fujian province mostly left from Xiamen to start their businesses in Southeast Asia.
"The exhibition is expected to enhance the Chinese understanding of the Philippines and cement their friendship," Zhuo said.
