Actress-director Li Xinling led her Xinling Theater to present a modern take on the classical work, The Wizard of Oz, which will be staged from May 30 to June 2 in Beijing's Fenglan International Small Theater, to celebrate the upcoming International Children's Day.
Based on the novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L.Frank Baum and The Wizard of Oz, a 1939 American musical fantasy film, the play will have actors interact with multi-media installations, creating a dreamland for both adults and children, according to the director.
Young Chinese composer Ding Ke has composed over 20 original works for the show. Before the show, the production team has also invited parents to write letters to their children, which will be read after the show.
On the last day of the show, parents and children will be selected to star with actors onstage, sharing the fairy tale and the childhood memories.
