Graduate snaps show portrait potential

Walking into the current location of the studio, you will be attracted by a wall of portraits. There are two that are especially eye-catching.

One is a photo of famous actor Zhao Dan, taken in the late 1970s, says Zhang. Zhao was very happy with that particular shot, even though the actor had taken thousands of photos throughout his career.

Another portrait is of Italian photographer Giorgio Lotti, also taken in the 1970s.

Lotti himself had taken a lot of pictures of political leaders including a famous photograph of former Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai. This casual snapshot of the photographer was taken on Lotti’s visit to Shanghai. He had heard that wedding photos were popular in China, and he wanted to know what they looked like, according to Zhang.
