President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Mongolia in August. To further enhance the Sino-Mongolian cultural exchange, Minister of Culture Cai Wu accepted the invitation from Tsedevdamba Oyungerel, the minister of the Mongolian Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and visited Mongolia with the Chinese government cultural delegation Aug 20 - 24.
During his visit to Mongolia, China and Mongolia's administrative department of culture signed an annual cultural exchange implementation plan, and successfully held a "Chinese Culture Week" and other events. The minister, Cai Wu, also discussed with Mongolia about further enhancing bilateral cultural exchanges and in-depth cooperation.
Cai Wu held talks with Mongolian Prime Minister Norovyn Altankhuyag and Oyungerel, minister of the Mongolian Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism at the Mongolian National Palace on Aug 20. During the meeting with the Mongolian prime minister, the two sides reached important consensus on the development of cultural exchanges in various fields between the two countries and the agreement to consolidate the foundation of bilateral friendship and cooperation.
They also agreed to promote Sino-Mongolian relations in the new era of development. During the talks, they said both sides would further strengthen the cultural exchange mechanism and exchanged views, especially with cooperation in the field of intangible cultural heritage protection and related specific projects.
On Aug 21, witnessed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj, Cai Wu and Oyungerel signed the "People's Republic of China and Mongolian Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism 2014-2017 cultural exchange plan" at the National Palace in Mongolia.
On Aug 22, President Xi Jinping’s wife, Peng Liyuan, and Mongolia President Elbegdorj’s wife, Bolormaa, attended the ceremony for Chinese Culture Week. It celebrated the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Mongolia and the China-Mongolia Friendship and Exchange Year. They cut the ribbon for the ceremony, attended the China Dunhuang Art Exhibition and saw Dunhuang mural copies and replicas of clay sculptures and instruments. Cai Wu and Oyungerel both made speeches at the opening ceremony.
During his visit to Mongolia, Cai Wu and Oyungerel also attended the "Chinese Tea Culture Art Exhibition" opening ceremony in Ulan Bator Chinese Cultural Centre.
