The third Wuzhen Theatre Festival will be staged from October 15 to 24 this year, according to a press conference held in Beijing.
With the theme "Transmittal", this year's event focuses on the continuity of theatrical art through different times. The English theatre and film director Peter Brook will attend the event and bring one of his latest works.
The festival consists of five sections: "Specially Invited Plays", "Young Theatre Artist's Competition", "The Wuzhen Dialogues and Workshops", "Outdoor Carnival" and "Master Class Program".
The "Young Theatre Artist’s competition" will be the highlight of the event. The competition is now open for application and all the works should be original and based on the theme "Transmittal". Three stage elements are required in the play: a circle, a lamp and a kiss. Twelve selected groups will come to Wuzhen to perform their creation and the top three works will be judged on October 23.
Meanwhile, this year’s festival will increase the number of works in the "Special Invite Plays" section where celebrated theatre masters from home and broad will be invited to showcase some of the world’s first-class works to the audiences.
The annual event is hosted by Culture Wuzhen Co., Ltd and founded by Chinese theatre artist Chen Xianghong, Stan Lai, Huang Lei and Meng Jinghui.
