Research shows that Chen lived here in 1917, when he moved to Beijing from Shanghai to teach at Peking University. The La Jeunesse editorial office moved here.

The refitted dwelling is to open before Chinese Youth Day on May 4 next year, along with an exhibition on Chen's life and the May Fourth Movement. It will be the first museum to hold a special exhibition on Chen.

Beijing boasts more than 280 former residences of famous people, mostly concentrated in the Dongcheng and Xicheng districts. In the next few years, Dongcheng District will vacate and renovate these residences, such as that of the renowned architect Hua Nangui.
