According to football's world governing body FIFA, the earliest form of football is Cuju, which originated during ancient China's Han Dynasty, but Britain is the home of the modern game, a set of rules being established in the UK in the 1860s. With more than 40,000 association football clubs, Britain also professionalized the sport.
