'Smiles from Ancient Times' exhibition held in Zhejiang

Ningbo Municipal Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology together with quite a few research institutions in China conducted an archaeological investigation, exploration and excavation on the site of Mount Yu and site of Mount Wugui in Zhenhai between 2013 and 2015, and discovered about 300 historical sites from the prehistoric periods to the Tang (618-907) and Song (960-1279) dynasties, and unearthed more than 600 pieces of cultural relics.

Before this archaeological discovery, the source of civilization in the Zhenhai area was thought to be the Shang and Zhou dynasties dating back 2,000 years, but now Zhenhai's history is traced back much further, to the early Hemudu culture dating back 6,500 years.

The exhibition runs through Jan 12.
