A new film combining sci-fi and kung fu will hit TV and online screens during the weeklong Spring Festival holiday.

Kung fu Traveler, a coproduction of the movie channel of China Central Television and iQiyi, China's major streaming platform, will be simultaneously released via CCTV and the website on Feb 1 as the nation's first film to premiere on TV and a website at the same time.

The film's story follows a robot's adventure through time travel back to the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It is a mix of romance, martial arts, sci-fi and history.

The film will star Chen Hu, a Chinese action director-turned-actor known for participating in The Matrix Reloaded (2003), and Wang Zhi, for her role in the 2015 Chinese hit Goodbye Mr. Loser.

CCTV expects the film to be viewed by at least 10 million people.
