Jorge Luis Borges' poetry is usually considered profound and thought-provoking. But an upcoming Chinese TV series will make an effort to bring out the Argentine poet's romantic works.

David Wang, the Taiwan actor who leads the cast of the drama Fighting Time, recited Borges' poem What Can I Hold You With at a promotional event in Beijing on Thursday.

The poem, written in 1934, is used by his character, a lonely entrepreneur, to win the heart of his true love.

Wang's emotional recital on the TV shows Letters Alive and The Reader, which have celebrities reading out remarkable handwritten letters from the past and literature works, has made him popular on the mainland.

In addition to literary power, Fighting Time highlights snowy scenes shot in a mountain in Southwest China's Sichuan province.

The series will be aired on Beijing Satellite TV and the streaming site PPTV on May 11.

The cast includes mainland actress Pan Zhilin and Taiwan actresses Cherrie Ying and Elaine Jin.
