Fuchun River is the mother river in photographer Yang Bohui's hometown. The river brings forth a sense of longing. Yang took pictures around the Funchun River, thinking about home and hometown. He refers to his home as a "soft thorn", because it hurt him during his young, rebellious years, even though he still sees it as a shelter.
Soft Thorn is a photography project Yang started in 2013. The original reason for the photographer to start the project was his recollection of adolescent rebellion and missing of his friends after leaving his family and hometown. Yang has attempted to complete a collection of works about his childhood memory through the records of portraits and landscapes in his hometown. In this project, Yang creates emotional expression and narrative by combining a large number of street snaps, landscape photos and symbolic sceneries.
