Shakespeare gets weird

( China Daily ) Updated: 2012-05-18 13:48:24

Avant-garde Hong Kong drama troupe Theater Noire will stage spoofs of Shakespeare's works set in the 21st century in Guangdong's provincial capital Guangzhou on May 25.

Imagine Romeo as a playboy rather than a loyal lover, willing to die for Juliet.

While a magical potion brings lovers together in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, the troupe's show begs the question as to whether it could work in a contemporary broken marriage.

The show will be in English, with Chinese subtitles. The troupe will stage the show in Guangdong's Shenzhen at the Shenzhen Children's Palace on May 27.

8 pm, May 25. Concert Hall, Xinghai Concert Hall, No 33 Qingbo Lu, Er-sha Island, Yuexiu district, Guangzhou. 020-8735-2222.
